Rye bolsters eligibility checks for athletics

Ryerson Athletics is reviewing its grade monitoring process among student athletes after the men’s soccer team was penalized for academic ineligibility by the Ontario University Athletics and U Sports.

An unnamed player failed to meet academic requirements back in September, forcing the team to forfeit its first six games. Had the wins stood, the team would have been in fourth place overall in the country.

Rams basketball’s Ammanuel Diressa prepares for final season

The Ryerson men’s basketball team has created many stars over the past few years. Ammanuel Diressa is one of their best.

Diressa is a 6’5” point guard, heading into what will be his final season with the team. He was named an OUA First-Team All-Star last season. After spending a couple of years at Tennessee Tech University, Diressa returned home and transferred to Ryerson to play for the Rams. This will be his third and final season playing for the team.

Ryerson Formula Racing car gets one more ride

The smell of gasoline lingers in the fall air while half a dozen engineers lean against the wire fence separating them from the track. They watch Ariel Gil dodge pylons as he drives the Ryerson race car around the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park karting track. Revs become faint as he finishes the first hairpin turn in the distance. Then, a thump.
