Long lines at the equipment cage in the Rogers Communications Centre should be getting shorter soon, as 20 new staffers started work Sept. 19.

According to Lesley Salvadori, Ryerson’s news media technical coordinator, the new staff, who were hired as work-study students, will be starting this week.

Extra staff should ease wait times at the new Andy Kufluk Equipment Distribution Centre. The centre serves various programs in the faculty of communication and design, including radio and television arts, journalism, and professional communications.

Prior to the merge, the journalism program operated its own cage.

The move has got cage staff sweating and students stuck standing, since there’s a new system for checking out equipment, and an increase in the number of students that need it. It has been frustrating for students who are used to speedy pick-up and drop-off times.
