Emma Rutherford struck twice in regulation and once in the shootout as the Ryerson Rams women’s hockey team defeated the No. 6 Laurier Golden Hawks 4-3 in Ontario University Athletics’ action on Sunday.
Rookie Kayla Karbonik found the back of the net on the power play for Ryerson (4-4-0). Fourth-year forward Melissa Wronzberg added three assists. It was the Rams third straight victory and second against a Canadian Interuniversity Sport top 10 team in two weeks.
Montana Merante, Robyn Degagne and Laura Brooker all scored for Laurier (5-2-1).
Ally Sarna turned aside 25 shots for her first win of the season. Amanda Smith made 31 saves for the Golden Hawks.
Ryerson went one for five on the power play while Laurier scored once on four chances.
