FCAR food sale raises money for Typhoon Haiyan relief

Fundraising efforts continue this week in support of aid relief for the Typhoon Haiyan-devastated Philippines.

The Filipino Canadian Association at Ryerson (FCAR) held a food sale in the RSU lobby Tuesday, offering authentic Philippine food at $4 a plate.

The helpings included a type of Philippine spring roll called lumpia, pancit noodles and cupcakes.

So far the Ryerson association has raised $1,000, and this number is expected to increase as events continue throughout the week.

FCAR will also host a karaoke night at Bar Plus on Yonge Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and a talent show Thursday evening.

The group says all funds will be put toward aid efforts, the majority to the Red Cross.

The current death toll as a result of the strongest typhoon on record has risen above 5,000. About 4 million people have been displaced.
