Ryerson University’s image arts and fashion unions organized a social event last Saturday to bring together students from the two disciplines.
The event was held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles on Elm Street, and had a 1920s theme. It was dubbed Swingin’ Speakeasy Night and references the underground bars popular in the United States in the 1920s — when alcoholic drinks were banned for a few years.
Students were encouraged to dress up in the styles of the time and the venue given an old-fashioned makeover accordingly. The night featured blackjack tables, old-timey music and fake cigarettes.
