Aaron Best scored a season-high 30 points and Ammanuel Diressa tallied 21 off the bench as Ryerson’s men’s basketball team defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 105-82 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre Friday night.
“I just wanted to stay aggressive and I think it worked to our advantage,” said Best. “It’s a game of runs, right? They’re going to run at us … You’ve just got to absorb it and fight back and I think we did a good job of that tonight.”
Best did most of his damage in the first quarter, scoring 14 points in the first three and a half minutes. Best was 11 for 17 from the field overall, including five for nine from behind the three-point arc. He also grabbed eight rebounds.
In what is becoming a recurring theme throughout the season, Ryerson’s bench once again turned in a dominant performance, outscoring Laurier’s 52-31. Diressa led the charge, knocking down eight of his 10 field goal attempts while Filip Vujadinovic chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Fifth-year guard Will Coulthard scored a team-high 16 points for the Golden Hawks.
Ryerson will play its final home game of the season next Saturday when the Rams take on the Algoma Thunderbirds. It will also be the final regular season home game for fifth-year players Best and Kadeem Green, who will be recognized by the team.
