It was a triumphant night for volleyball last Friday, as both the men’s and women’s teams snagged victories over the visiting York Lions at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC).
The women improved their record to 5-1 on the season, with a 3-1 victory. They won the opening set easily at 25-14, but were unprepared for the Lions’ intense comeback in the second set, which saw the visitors pull away with a 25-19 win.
Ryerson regrouped in the third set, at one point leading 9-3. From there, they went on to win the fourth set, overcoming a 21-21 tie with three straight points.
Meanwhile, the men’s team ended a two-game losing streak, with a 3-1 victory over the Lions. They came out strong and won the first two sets, comfortably in the lead most of the way.
In the third set, York held a 16-12 lead at the halfway point and the rest of the set was tense, with both teams trading points until York pulled away after scoring four of the final six points.
Ryerson won the fourth and final set, ultimately snagging the 3 -1 victory.
As a bonus, Ryerson tried to bolster school spirit by hosting an in-game EDM party in the MAC alumni lounge, which overlooks the ice rink. The party featured a live DJ, a light show and prize giveaways. Another party is scheduled for this Friday, when the men’s hockey team plays the Carleton Ravens.
