Four halal food restaurants near Ryerson campus

This version is updated with four places and adds paragraph two confirming halal standards with the restaurants listed below.

For Ryerson students who eat halal, finding appropriate lunch and snack options near campus can be difficult. So to save you some time, we went out and asked students where their favourite halal spots were and what menu item they’d recommend. We even found a place on campus.

During the reporting of this piece The Ryersonian found that there is more that one organization that can certify restaurants as halal. The Ryersonian called all the locations listed and they gave a verbal assurance that they are halal over the phone during the reporting of this piece. Ryerson Eats has halal chicken in the Build Your Own Bowl station at the Hub referred to in one of the quotes, and some other stations according to their website. Always look for the halal sign that they place to make sure the meal is halal.

  1. The only one of these restaurants that’s actually halal certified and not lying to the general public about the source of their halal meat is Villa Madina, the rest cannot be considered as open and transparent about the source of their meat products as they do not have regular inspections, audits, or any third party access by anyone. Just look at all the kosher places in this city, they all have certificates validating their supply chain and operations. You are misleading people to visit non-halal restaurants, this site should be updated to only show true halal establishments that have third party verification and trust from the Muslim public and scholars.
