If you missed the 43rd Annual Juno Awards last night, held in Winnipeg, we’ve got you covered. Here are the top 5 moments from the Canadiana awards show:
Boos for Bieber
Yikes. Justin Bieber may not have been in attendance last night, but loud hecklers were. After the Stratford-born artist won the Fan Choice Award, attendees booed every time they heard Bieber’s name (boos after a fan choice award, something doesn’t seem right). This is the fourth time Bieber takes home this prize.
People on Twitter were hailing Serena Ryder as “Queen Ryder” last night. She performed twice, co-hosted the show and took home the award for Songwriter of the Year. Her best moment? When she turned television sets across the country black and white. The only thing in colour were her red lips, nails and background lights. Even better was her sweet voice. She performed For You, a theatrical tune with a 1920s twist.
Commander Hadfield sings “Takin’ Care of Business”
We liked Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield’s tunes from the International Space Station, but his musical stylings here on earth were just as great. Hadfield inducted Bachman-Turner Overdrive into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and did it by singing a BTO hit song. Yes.
A Tribe Called Red wins big
The native trio, known for their dubstep-powwow music, took home the award for Breakthrough Group of the Year. In his acceptance speech, group member Ian Campeau, also known as DJ NDN, dedicated the award to native youth. “This moment right here is proof that whatever moments you strive for in life are completely attainable,” Campeau said.
Tegan and Sara owns the night
The best moment of the night belonged to Tegan and Sara. The night really did belong to them, as they won three awards, including Artist of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
