Need a study break? The Ryersonian brings you a roundup of campus events this week.
For the art lover:
The Ryerson Image Centre kicks off Ghost Dance: Activism. Resistance. Art on Wednesday. This multimedia group exhibition looks at activism in contemporary indigenous art. It is a new media art installation, so look forward to a unique viewing experience.
Spend an afternoon at the Young Architects of Spain exhibition for a unique visual experience and learn a thing or two about architecture in the process. The exhibition runs until October 4.
For the bookworm:
Feel like taking in a little culture? Ryerson’s new Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre is hosting an open house on Wednesday with guest speakers and refreshments. Check out their digital archives, rare collections and research projects in their new space.
For the game enthusiast:
Ever think about making your own mobile game? The Game Makers Union of Ryerson is hosting a free workshop on how to build games for your phone on Wednesday evening. Don’t be intimidated! No experience is necessary.
Are you planning to watch The Goblet of Fire for the tenth time this Sunday? Instead of watching witches and wizards play quidditch, why not try it yourself? Join Ryerson’s very own quidditch team for practice Sunday afternoon and learn how to play the fantasy game we all love.
For the gourmand:
Drop into Rye HomeGrown’s harvest festival Thursday afternoon to enjoy delicious food made with HomeGrown’s own harvest by local chefs. Participate in workshops or take a tour of HomeGrown’s edible gardens.
For the performer:
Check out Ryerson’s first hip-hop karaoke night of the year this Tuesday. Go for the entertainment or brave the stage alone. The best performances get prizes so start practicing those rhymes in the shower.
Musicians at Ryerson host a weekly open mic at Ryerson’s campus pub, Ram in the Rye. Go to watch or be bold and participate. Email music@ryerson.ca to save yourself a slot. You can get to know even more musicians at Lou Dawg’s this Thursday night. It is a great way to find some band mates and enjoy acoustic performances by Rye students.
