Ryerson University and the City of Toronto are apparently off the hook when it comes to footing the bill for the repaving of Gould Street.
A spokesperson for the university told The Ryersonian Tuesday that the cost of scraping and repaving the street will be paid for by the contractor who originally painted the road.
“The university was not satisfied with the work that was done on Gould Street,” Johanna VanderMaas, a Ryerson media relations officer, said in an email.
“Ryerson approached the vendor to find a solution. As part of these discussions, the vendor has agreed to bear the costs of scraping and repaving Gould Street,” she said.
The botched paint job reportedly cost the school almost $111,000.
The Ryersonian, using information provided by President Sheldon Levy, previously reported that the repavement would be paid for by the city and apologizes for any confusion.
Levy told The Ryersonian Nov. 10 that “The city is covering all the costs.”
VanderMaas confirmed Tuesday that the city won’t be funding the project.
Construction crews started removing the top layer of the road Nov. 7.
The re-pavement process began last Friday.
