Campus Status

Can I still come to campus?

Students: Please do not come to campus unless necessary. If you need to come to campus for a class or pre-approved appointment, you are expected to complete a health self-assessment prior to your arrival each day. Additional screening questions may be asked of you in advance of being granted entry to a building.

Employees: If you have OneCard access to a building or space, your OneCard access will be maintained, however please do not come to campus unless necessary. Working on campus requires prior planning and approval from a senior leader at the VP or Dean level.

If you are visiting campus please familiarize yourself with the procedures for mask use.

Essential services

Effective Wednesday, March 18, Ryerson University is operating on an essential services model on our campus until further notice.

Essential services are those that are necessary to enable our university to:

  • ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, 
  • preserve critical infrastructure,
  • minimize serious environmental damage, and 
  • continue the delivery of administrative functions required to support core organizational priorities.

The following essential services are required to continue operating on campus in some capacity. 

Please note: This list may change over time and many of these units may be operating under reduced staffing levels and/or with reduced hours

  • Financial Services urgent payments and purchasing

Staff who provide essential services are contacted by their department heads who are responsible for assigning duties and making reasonable arrangements for their protection. 

If you are not tasked with providing essential services on campus, your work is still important to the university and you should continue to work from an alternate location. Leaders have a responsibility to determine appropriate work from home assignments to ensure the ongoing work of the university continues. If you have a role or work you feel cannot be done from home, or if you need support determining how to implement remote work assignments, please reach out to your HR partner who will be happy to assist you.

Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services (RASS) remains available to First Nations, Inuit, Metis, Canadian Indigenous students (or those who identify by your nation or community) at Ryerson.

Academic Accommodation Support and the Test Centre are open and providing services remotely, eg. phone, email. For general inquiries, please email aasadmin@ryerson.ca or call 416-979-5094.

Undergraduate Admissions in-person services are unavailable until further notice, but support remains available online. Support for students and applicants with inquiries remains our top priority, and every effort will continue to be made to ensure that our business processes support our applicants during this unprecedented time.

The Campus Store’s physical location has temporarily closed. Students, faculty and staff may purchase academic materials and a limited selection of Ryerson branded gifts from the Campus Store website.

Students enrolled in winter 2021 classes are required to submit their textbook, course material and e-book orders online via the Campus Store website. Physical textbooks and course materials will be shipped to a student’s personal residence.

All Career & Co-op Centre services are available online, including employer networking events, workshops and 1:1 advising. Students can register for events and workshops and book 1:1 appointments online.

The Centre for Student Development and Counselling (CSDC) is physically closed, but has moved to a virtual support system. Students can still contact the CSDC at 416-979-5195 or csdc@ryerson.ca, as messages are being monitored regularly during business hours, and a receptionist will respond as soon as possible.

Current clients of the CSDC will receive a message from their counsellor about services and resource options, or they can contact their counsellor directly by email.

The Computing and Communications Services Help Desk remains available to students, faculty and staff by both phone and email. 

Effective March 18, CCS will no longer provide in-person support for computers, printers and phones. For areas that must remain running, such as research labs, support staff may be able to provide help onsite the next day or later. 

Services provided by lab advisors and CCS reception will be suspended until further notice.

Dining halls

Dine-in service at the Pitman Dining Hall has been temporarily suspended while Toronto remains in grey level lockdown restrictions. Meal plan holders will continue to receive their meals to go from the Pitman Dining Hall or have their meals delivered to their residence room. Drop-in dining service is currently unavailable. The ILC Dining Hall remains temporarily closed.

In response to COVID-19, Food Services has implemented a number of changes to their dining model and operations to ensure the safety of guests and staff.

Graduate student research continues to the extent possible. Students should discuss any questions, concerns or potential alternative arrangements with their faculty supervisors. Meetings with supervisors, supervisory committees and research-related examinations (e.g., defences, candidacy examinations, etc.) are continuing. As indicated in the PDF fileYSGS guidelines on online meetings these have been moved online. The latest information on access to research laboratories is available on the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI)’s COVID-19 webpage.

Housing & Residence Life has reopened the Daphne Cockwell Complex (DCC), International Living/Learning Centre (ILC) and Pitman Hall (PIT) with reduced capacity for students choosing to live on campus. Residence buildings may only be accessed by residents and Housing & Residence Life staff.

Ryerson Human Rights Services offers support, coaching and can provide you with information so you understand what options are available to you as it relates to human rights concerns. If you choose to file a complaint, they can guide you through the process.

The team is also available to support and consult with leaders working through human rights and employment equity issues.

As of September 8th, 2020, the Ryerson Medical Centre has re-opened in a limited capacity for in-person appointments. Virtual appointments and mental health assessments remain available through telephone and video-conferencing.

Students can contact the Medical Centre at 416-979-5070 or at medicalct@ryerson.ca, as messages are being monitored regularly during business hours, and a receptionist will respond as soon as possible.

The OneCard Office has temporarily closed its physical office and our staff are now operating remotely. OneCard staff will continue to monitor and respond to email and voicemails. 

OneCard distribution is only available to students and employees who are required to come to campus during the winter 2021 semester or plan to access certain campus services. Ryerson community members can learn if they are eligible to pick-up their OneCard and how to do so by visiting the Get Your Card (Students) and Get Your Card (Faculty & Staff) pages on the OneCard website.

The OneCard Office’s new remote hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Permit parking and daily public parking continues to be available at Ryerson. Essential service employees required to come to campus to fulfill the duties of their role may be eligible to have their travel-related costs reimbursed.

All writing, math, English language, study skills, and graduate support appointments are available online or by phone. Students can book their sessions online

Beginning September 8, the Ryerson Library will provide community members access to their wifi network, computers, study spaces and in-person research appointments for specialized spaces and services, including the Library Collaboratory, Archives and Special Collections and the Isaac Olowolafe Digital Media Experience (DME) Lab. The Library is also providing a contactless print pickup service for community members who need access to print-only materials, as well as laptop and wifi hotspot loans. In-person Library services are available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and must be booked online through the Ryerson Library website

Virtual services are available through the Library Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Virtual services available at the Library include:

ServiceHub in-person services are unavailable until further notice. Support for students and applicants with inquiries remains our top priority and our support services will be provided online and through telephone. Our telephone lines are open Monday to Thursday between the hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can connect with us online through AskRyerson, external link, email, chat, and our webinars. The SLC will re-open with limited occupancy and reduced operations for students who require access to study space or a reliable internet connection on September 8. The SLC will be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Entry is by OneCard and reservation only.

There are no tours or events during this time.

Hours: Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. beginning September 8. Closed on weekends. 

Mask or face covering and distancing is required inside the building.

Closed services

The Athletics & Recreation facilities, programs and services at the RAC and Kerr Hall are closed until further notice.

In response to developments in the regional COVID-19 situation, the Mattamy Athletic Centre is also closed. As per government directive, this closure is currently planned to last until Saturday, November 7, 2020. More detail can be found on the Recreation website.

Prorated refunds will be issued for any program or rental cancellations related to the closure. If you are a community or affiliate member, your membership will be automatically extended for the length of the closure. Alternatively, should you wish to receive a prorated refund, please contact staff at recreation@ryerson.ca.

The DMZ space is closed until further notice. No access will be granted to the space during this time. For more information, visit the COVID-19 updates page on the DMZ website.

Ryerson Early Learning Centre, and EarlyON program are closed until further notice.

After careful consideration, and with the intent to maintain the safety of everyone at the Early Learning Centre, a decision has been made to keep the ELC closed for the summer. An opening date will be reevaluated in Fall 2020, in collaboration with the university’s return to campus plans currently in development.

The Chang School building at 297 Victoria Street (Heaslip House) is closed until further notice. Client Services remains accessible by email at ce@ryerson.ca.

Effective March 17, the Kinetic Café (ENG), the Library Kiosk (LIB), Starbucks (SLC) and Ted’s Bagels (TRS) will be closed until further notice. 

The Hub Café (JOR), continues to operate but will have reduced hours and reduced stations. Updated hours may change in the future. Food Services is temporarily suspending the filling of personal cups and travel mugs. 

Due to the continuing threat to public health created by the pandemic, now declared a state of emergency by the province of Ontario, the Ryerson Image Centre's, external link galleries will remain closed for the coming winter season.

Ryerson University's 10 learning zones are closed effective March 17 until further notice.

The Student Campus Centre (SCC) is closed until further notice.
