Ezra Levant is speaking on Ryerson campus today and the event has been moved due to security concerns.
Two Ryerson student groups, Ryerson Campus Conservatives and Students Supporting Israel, plan to host Rebel Media’s Levant for an event that will focus on “Campus Culture and Israel & Islam.”
The event was originally scheduled to take place in the Sears Atrium in the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre. It will now take place in the alumni lounge on the third floor of the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC).
Attendees are required to register through the ticket selling service Eventbrite and must show their tickets at the door. As per the event description, patrons who attempt to enter with backpacks or bags will be denied entry. Security will also be present.
In the event’s Facebook group, it is made clear that this event is strictly for students, though it does not specify whether or not this rule applies to Ryerson students or students in Toronto in general.
The president of CESAR, the union for continuing education students, has issued a formal letter to Ryerson president Mohamed Lachemi stating the groups’ disappointment in “giving space to known bigot, Ezra Levant.”
