EXTENDED HEALTH PLAN BENEFITS

Prescription Drugs

The RSU Members' Health Plan covers 80% of the cost of most medications legally requiring a prescription. The Prescription Drug Benefit favours the use of lower cost generic drugs whenever possible. Generic drugs are chemically identical versions of brand name drugs, at a lower cost than the brand name version. The maximum amount payable to an eligible brand name drug will be limited to the lowest priced item in the appropriate generic category. Be sure to advise your doctor and pharmacist that you have a generic equivalent drug plan when having drugs prescribed.

When visiting the pharmacist to have a prescription filled, simply provide them with your myBenefits Card. A handy pay direct card, containing all your health and dental plan registration information is available for download or pick-up it up at the Health & Dental Plan benefit office, located in the Student Centre Lobby. Use this myBenefits Card and only pay 20% of prescription drug cost.

Dental Accident

The Plan covers the services of a dental surgeon, including dental prosthesis, required for the treatment of a fractured jaw or accidental injuries to natural teeth or jaw if caused by external, violent and accidental means, provided the services are performed within 6 months of the accident. Excluding from coverage are services required in conjunction with such injuries due to a condition that existed before the accident. If a dental accident occurs, the health plan's dental accident provision will pay benefits before the dental plan.

Because dental accidents are payable under the health benefit rather than the dental benefit, you will need to complete an Extended Health Claim form and a Supplemental Dental Accident Questionnaire which can be obtained from, and must be filled out by your attending dentist, immediately after the accident. Treatment related to the accident must commence within six months of the accident date and completed within 365 days following the accident. When making a claim be sure to attach all original receipts to the claim form. The claim form can be mailed directly to Green Shield at the address on the form, or dropped off at the Health & Dental Plan benefit office, Student Centre lobby. Claim forms are sent out daily!
