Karolina Surowiec

I am going into my fourth year of Financial Mathematics. I'm one of the founders of AUWS and Co-President for the year 2019-2020. I created AUWS as me and a few other women in science noticed that there is no woman in science group that connects us to all programs in the Faculty of Science. Creating this group and being a part of it has made me really love the science community and brought me closer to it.

I’m in the Financial Maths program and entering my second year at Ryerson. What I love about AUWS is the all-inclusive energy. It’s so important to ensure that everyone is offered an equal opportunity and to continue encouraging women to pursue careers in sciences and leadership positions. I’m so looking forward to the events we’ll be offering this year that’ll in turn offer connections and support to all those who seek it. Sci-fi novels, board games and beer are what I live for and my favourite place to be is the cottage.

I am going into my fourth year of the Biomedical Science program at Ryerson. I have a passion for science communication and I believe in AUWS' mission. I believe in giving women in STEM a platform to share their experiences and knowledge with the public. I didn't see many female scientists growing up and want to be a part of changing that for girls in the future with AUWS. In my spare time I love walks by the water with my dog and I also really loves salsa dancing!

I’m a third year Biomedical sciences student here at Ryerson. AUWS was my holy grail because it not only combined my love for science along with my strong desire for social justice, it helped me build of community of peers who I not only respect but am happy to call my friends. This year, I hope we can make more students feel like this, like they belong not only in their program but here at Ryerson!

I'm in my fourth year of Biomedical Sciences. The reason why I joined AUWS is because this club shares the same passion as I do, providing a supportive environment for women in STEM. As the VP of Community Development, I hope to organize and host social events to inspire women in different STEM fields, by bringing in different speakers from a variety of different occupations. Fun fact about me: I absolutely LOVE the tv show Friends! It’s by far my favourite show. 🙂

I am in my fourth year in Biomedical Sciences here at Ryerson. I had the pleasure of being the Biomedical Sciences Rep for AUWS 2018-2019 in its first year back as a student-run group here on campus where I assisted in bringing in and arranging events solely around Women in STEM For this new year, I am hoping to continue with networking with the Women in STEM, creating new relationships and networking with more organizations aligned with our goals, host events that help students and our members to de-stress, and create workshops that teach students how to combat stereotypes in the workplace. I love being part of AUWS as I stand with its core values and purposes and it’s my honour to be a part in representing and shining a light on diverse Women in STEM.
