ACB Counselling Program

Canadian Red Cross and Government of Canada (Employment and Social Development Canada) helped fund FAMHAS effort to expand accessibility to mental health services for the ACB community across Canada during the Covid-19 pandemic.

SHINING A LIGHT ON MENTAL HEALTH IN BLACK COMMUNITIES

FAMHAS contributed to the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s new resource SHINING A LIGHT ON MENTAL HEALTH IN BLACK COMMUNITIES. Marie Remy, president of the FAMHAS foundation, was the national spokesperson for this new resource. Read it Here

Santé mentale des femmes noires, entrepreneuriat et opportunités de carrière

FAMHAS offered an informative session exploring the need to develop and maintain a strong mental health routine while navigating the world of entrepreneurship and careers as black women. We discussed some of the challenges we face and how we can overcome them.

ACB Women Support Group

Working in collaboration with CCFWE and other black women-led organizations, we organized a series of informative workshop and support sessions with weekly guest experts. These sessions provided a safe space for ACB women to learn and ask questions.

The First Phoenix Gala: Building Community.

We held our first Phoenix Gala on August 17, 2019, at the Infinity Centre in Ottawa.

Fabiola’s Addiction and Mental Health Awareness & Support Foundation (FAMHAS) is a non-profit organization. Our goal is to raise awareness, educate, and provide support to the black community in Ottawa who suffers from mental illnesses and addiction.

Fabiola’s Addiction and Mental Health Awareness & Support Foundation

Kind and loving are the words that come to mind when we think about Fabiola. She always wore a smile on her face and was always ready to help others. Because of her loving and cheerful nature, many of us missed the sign of her depression, and unfortunately, she turned to drugs to help ease the pain. Fabiola always wanted to make a difference and give back to the community. To honour her memory and to realize her lifelong dream, her sister and daughter created FAMHAS.

To know her is to love her, Fabiola meant a lot to so many, and is deeply missed by all who knew her.
