INN24: ACORN Toronto advocates for affordable housing through an increase in vacant home tax

Posted January 19, 2021

Grassroots advocates from Toronto ACORN came together at Nathan Phillip's Square to pressure the City of Toronto’s executive committee to pass the vacant-home tax proposal with a higher tax rate, which has been implemented in Vancouver, BC. If the proposal is approved, the city stands to gain $55-$66 million in tax revenues per year, and this fund would be utilized for affordable housing projects.
