Interim president Mohamed Lachemi will visit Ryerson’s India-based incubator in Mumbai on Friday with Michael Chan, immigration minister, and Brad Duguid, economic development minister.
BIL-Ryerson DMZ India, is a collaboration between the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute Ltd, Simon Fraser University, Ryerson Futures Inc. and Ryerson University. It helps entrepreneurs get their startups off the ground and gives them opportunities to network across Indian and Canadian markets.
This visit will be the latest stop during the 10-day trade mission led by Ontario premier, Kathleen Wynne. Wynne is joined by ministers, MPPs, aides, academics and business leaders. At large, the mission aims to strengthen the relationship between India and Ontario.
“The objective is to meet face-to-face with government decision-makers and potential partners in India,” said Lachemi. “It is to connect with partners, but most importantly to promote our university.”
Lachemi said they are creating new partnerships and signing new agreements during the trip. Most recently, they signed an agreement with Indian partners to do research within the energy sector. He said they will be able to release more details later this week.
In the past, the DMZ partnered with universities in Israel, South Africa and China.
Lachemi said they are looking forward to seeing the positive effects the incubator has had since its establishment in 2014.
The Canadian representatives will continue to meet with senior government and business leaders to discuss infrastructure development and sustainable technology. The representatives return home on Feb.6.
