A male pedestrian is dead after being struck by a dump truck near Yonge-Dundas Square early Wednesday morning.
Toronto police said the man was lying on the ground in a laneway beside the Hard Rock Café when a GFL Environment Inc. truck hit him.
“The man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics a short time later,” Const. Clinton Stibbe said.
Police said the driver of the truck had remained on the scene.
The laneway was still blocked off with police tape shortly before 9 a.m. while a collision reconstruction team conducted a full investigation.
Police said the team spoke to several witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage.
Stibbe said police are also looking for a man who was seen on surveillance footage speaking to the driver of the truck immediately after the collision.
“He is not here, he did not stay, however, we are asking that person to contact us,” he said.
No charges have been laid due to the ongoing investigation.
Police are appealing for information.
