Maple Leaf Gardens, now Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC) has been ranked tenth this week on ESPN’s Top 10 most historic North American stadiums.
“This is an exciting time for us. We are busy, but busy in a good way. This recent announcement from ESPN helps to put us up on the map,” said Keith Baulk, general manager at the MAC. “It allows us to be more recognizeable across North America.”

In honour of great stadiums, Stadium Journey compiled a list of the top 10 most historic North American sports stadiums that are being used to date.
ESPN posted an article about this announcement on February 27. The article describes the following criteria that were considered in order for certain stadiums to even qualify for the list. The criteria include: Historic status as the host of major sports events, or revolutionary design; iconic status as the home of an elite fanbase or tradition, a storied franchise, or by being an old ballpark that stood the test of time; or fame as a venue that most North Americans would quickly identify with as a staple of culture.
