The Ryerson Rams men’s volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season last week.
They battled hard against the Waterloo Warriors Friday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, only to lose 3-1.
The Rams had a promising start, leading early on and then fending off a Warriors late rally before closing out the set with a 25-23 win.
The second set, however, went to the Warriors, despite a brief 22-22 tie.
Ryerson fell behind early in the third set and called a timeout, but couldn’t recover.
By halfway through the fourth set, Waterloo held a narrow advantage, at 16-15, and gained more ground as the set went on. The Warriors eventually pulled away to snag a 25-19 set win, and a 3-1 victory.
Despite the loss, the Rams finished the game with 51 kills in total, more than Waterloo, who scored only 46. The Rams’ Lucas Coleman contributed 14 kills, a team high. Rob Wojcik added another 13.
The loss took the Rams record to four wins and one loss. Waterloo’s record is now three wins and three losses.
This Friday, the Rams are back on home court to play the York University Lions.
