July 30, 1956 – March 2, 2018

Passed away peacefully at Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital Palliative Care Unit on March 2, 2018, in his 62nd year. He will be forever loved, cherished and missed by his wife, Lucy; his father, Murray; brother, Ian (Hilary); nephew, Eric; step-son, John (Chiara); grandson, Rio; extended family and friends and his extensive Ryerson family. Dana was predeceased by his mother, Eleanor (2016) and his aunt, Loreena (2017).

Dana was a beloved, award-winning Professor at Ryerson's RTA school of media. He lived his life to the end with grace, humour, strength and love.

Heartfelt thanks to the many angels who offered unconditional love and support throughout his journey.

In keeping with his lifelong spirit of giving, Dana has donated his body to science. A Celebration of Life will take place at Ryerson University, details to be announced via social media. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please perform random acts of kindness.

My thoughts and love go out to all of Dana's family and friends. He was a remarkable person with infectious energy, passion and a love for learning. He shared his love of broadcasting and trying new things with his adoring students at Ryerson. As a parent and a professional in the field now, I try to embody Dana's energy, passion and curiosity in everything that I do and it has a chain reaction of inspiring others.

The OCUFA Teaching and Academic Librarianship Committee extends our deepest sympathy to Dana's family and friends. We had the privilege of reading his award-winning nomination package and gained a glimpse of who he was professionally - a brilliant and passionate teacher. Our academic community has lost a wonderful educator who has touched the lives of many students and we are deeply saddened by this loss.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Dana and Lucy at Sunnybrook Hospital, as my father was a patient on the same floor. Dana and Lucy were always warm and engaging with every encounter.

Lucy - You took great care of Dana in his last moments. Now it's time to take care of yourself.

I am wishing you strength, peace, and good memories of Dana.

Warmly - Kar-Wei, Peter, Grace and Gavin

Dana Lee touched me in the short time tjat I came to know him through my beloved cousin and hid super dedicated wife, Lucy. He was a gracious host to me, my son Zachary de Lima, and my novia, Maria Elisa di Bartolomeo. We followed the good news of the marriage of his step son, his marriage to Lucy and the birth of his grandson; we reeled in shock at his diagnosis and stuggled mightily to come to terms with the prognosis. We prayed daily for his deliverance and the miracle of a return with good health to his wife and family. Now we pray for his place in Paradise and the sweetness of our memories of him forever.

To my friend Dana :
On Teaching
Kahlil Gibran

No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge.

The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness.

If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.
You were indeed wise my friend. You will be missed.
