An expert panel gave graduate students and faculty researchers tips for how to successfully engage government funders at Ryerson Feb. 14.
They discussed the importance of having a clear and simply written proposal that will engage government funders and policy makers who are not familiar with technical jargon. According to the experts, funders are more interested in the end result of a research project and researchers should emphasize that in their request for proposal. The panel also discussed how researchers could take advantage of different avenues of government funding.
Experts at the event included Alison Paprica, a former director at the Ministry of Health; Sean Conway, a former Ontario minister of education and Jennifer MacInnis, senior director of applied research and commercialization at Ryerson.
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation hosts these ‘Lunch and Learn’ events every few months to provide graduate students and faculty researchers with information to help guide them through the research process.
