After setting a program record for wins in a season with 15, the Ryerson Rams women’s volleyball team goes into the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) quarter-finals today against the Guelph Gryphons riding a four-game win streak. The game starts at 4 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC).
Ranked second in OUA East, the Rams had a 15-4 record in the regular season, including 8-2 at home. The Rams were led by fifth-year senior outside hitter Veronica Livingston, who led the team in kills (182), kills per set (2.98) and was second on the team in digs (111). Middle blocker Theanna Vernon was second on the team in kills (171), kills per set (2.48) and was first on the team in hitting percentage (.389).
In their previous match against Guelph on Feb. 17, the Rams ended with a victory as they came back from a single-set deficit for a 3-1 win. Vernon had a strong game with 15 kills and 24 points, while setter Kate McIlmoyle had 37 assists.
Guelph went 12-7 this season with an away record of 5-5. Fourth-year left side Maddie Dedecker led the way for Guelph with 198 kills and 2.79 kills per set.
Ryerson is hosting the 2017 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball National Championship from March 17-19 at the MAC.
