The life of third-year financial mathematics student Najdana Andjelkovic will be honoured this week on campus.
Andjelkovic died in a car crash in the early hours of Oct. 31. She was heading eastbound on the Gardiner Expressway east of Parkside Drive when she hit two concrete blocks and a guard rail. She was only 25-years-old.
While at Ryerson, Andjelkovic was vice-president of the Ryerson Science Society. Since her death, the science society has met to discuss how to pay respect to the contributions Andjelkovic made to the Faculty of Science.
The society has come up with three ways to pay respect to their friend and member.
Memorial Walk
The first event will be a memorial walk on Nov. 11. The walk will begin at Allan Gardens and end at the Ryerson science lounge. Anyone who wants to honour Andjelkovic’s memory is welcome to join the walk.
The group decided to begin the walk at Allan Gardens because it was one of Andjelkovic’s favourite places to go near campus, said the president of the science society, Cristina Thuppu Mudalige.
“And the science lounge is a place where the society usually hosts small events and preps for larger events,” she said.
Plaque in the science lounge
The installation of Andjelkovic’s plaque will also take place on Nov. 11 at the science lounge.
“[This plaque is] to commemorate Najdana’s passion and commitment to improving student life for everyone in the Faculty of Science,” said Thuppu Mudalige.
Volleyball game
Next week there will be a volleyball game in celebration of Andjelkovic’s passion for the sport. Everyone is welcome to come and play.
“She played volleyball almost every weekend and her team would place first in almost all the tournaments,” said Thuppu Mudalige.
The game will take place in the Kerr Hall East upper gym on Nov. 15.
