A Ryerson Students’ Union member has been selected as one of six curators for this year’s Pride Toronto Festival. Brodie Metcalfe, the events co-ordinator for the RSU, will help program the Yonge-Dundas Square Stage, according to Pride Toronto’s website.
This is the first time that the arts and culture manager role will be split amongst six people. In an interview with DailyXtra, a national gay and lesbian publication, Pride Toronto executive director Mathieu Chantelois said that the festival will benefit from having different voices and creative visions.
When reached for comment, Metcalfe would not disclose any further details on the festival.
This year will mark Canada’s first ever Pride month, which will begin on June 1, 2016. The extended event schedule will offer additional programming and ‘provocative events’ throughout the city. The regular Pride Toronto week will conclude the month and run from June 24 to July 3.
