Ryerson University has cracked the annual Maclean’s magazine best Canadian universities list, coming in at number eight.
The university has moved up four spots from last year, from 12th to eighth, in the 2015 ranking.
The list includes 49 other schools, including University of Toronto, McGill University, and the University of British Columbia.
Senior editor at Maclean’s, Mary Dwyer, says the reason that Ryerson has made a jump in the list is because it continues to be a school striving for change.
“One thing Ryerson does well is the reputation survey. It’s always continuing to improve on its respective categories,” Dwyer says.
The data is gathered from Statistics Canada and other available public data.
The Canadian university ranking is primarily based on three categories; the differences in the institution, research funding and the depth of the program.
From there, the ranking is decided on categories including budget on student services, scholarships, libraries, awards, faculty, students and classes and resources.
“Ryerson continues to maintain its first place in commitment to student services which is huge,” explains Dwyer.
“Ryerson has been going up in ranking and maintained that stance by continuing to focus on student services.”
The list is often used to help parents and their children decide which school is the best investment.
This is a joint byline.
