The Ryerson Dance Pak will attend three weekend competitions in March where it will be facing other post-secondary dance teams from Ontario.
Co-captain Sacha Lank said the team has been rehearsing for more than 10 hours a week. Sometimes their Sunday practices last up to seven hours. “Rehearsal days are really long so getting through them might be a little challenging at times, but that’s to be expected,” she said.
The team is preparing five group routines in various dance styles such as jazz, open, tap and contemporary. Eight out of the 16 team members will be performing solos.
Annie Dewar, one of the assistant captains, said the Dance Pak has set out specific goals for each competition. They hope to place in every category and win some overall team awards.
“Our main goal is to just make the audience and judges really understand our pieces and just show everyone how close we are and how hard we’ve been working,” she said.
The Dance Pak’s first competition will be March 5 in Brampton, Ont.
