Ryerson students had the chance to meet their new president on Wednesday at the Student Learning Centre.
A meet-and-greet and free buffet was organized by the university to give interim president and vice-chancellor, Mohamed Lachemi a chance to meet with students.
Lachemi, whose term began Dec. 1, made his biggest priority clear at the event. “It’s really about getting [students] engaged. When you get students engaged, the success rate is always high,” he said. “We want them to feel supported at Ryerson.”
Part of supporting students, Lachemi said, means continuing to expand the campus, despite concerns about a lack of space. “We do have a number of projects actually that we’re just starting the digging. We are creative people; we always find a way to do that.”
Though his position has been deemed interim, he doesn’t plan on leaving Ryerson anytime soon. “I have been at Ryerson for 18 years and I love Ryerson,” he said. “I’m not leaving.”
