The Ryersonian has made the finals for five 2014 Canadian Online Publishing Awards: best media website, best news coverage, best blog or column, best infographic and best interactive story.
The awards are an industry event for all online publishers.
Ryersonian instructor Gavin Adamson, who oversees The Ryersonian, said five pieces were entered in June, and every one of them was nominated. This is the third time that The Ryersonian has entered the awards. In the past, the publication has won gold for best use of social media.
Adamson is also on the panel of judges for this year’s awards, though he says he will not be involved in the judging process for The Ryersonian. The panel is made up of almost 100 judges, many of whom are also involved in other nominated publications.
There are three divisions for possible entries: red for special interest consumer magazines; green for news outlets including newspapers, magazines and radio stations; and blue for special business-to-business niche publications, such as trade and association magazines. The Ryersonian is entered under the blue division.
There is a $115 entry fee per piece; Adamson said the money for the entry fees came from a “general budget line” of the school.
The awards ceremony will take place on Nov. 20 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre.
