Rena Mendleson co-authored the paper “An examination of the nutrient content and on-package marketing of novel beverages,” which was published on the NRC Research Press: Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism website Jan. 12, 2015.
The paper, which looked at 20, 520 products, found that some vitamins present in the drinks were in excess of five times the upper recommended daily intake values. Some of the nutrients, such as Niacin, were already being consumed in proper servings by young adults, who are the products’ assumed target audience.
