Food bank use in Toronto’s city core has decreased to pre-recession levels, according to a report released Tuesday by Daily Bread Food Bank. But more people are using Ryerson’s student-run food bank, the Community Food Room.

Drew Silverthorn, Community Food Room assistant, says the “huge jump” in use isn’t merely due to new incoming first year students. Higher tuition and less stigma may be behind the rise in membership.
