Ryerson’s president, Sheldon Levy, has been honoured with the Toronto Region Board of Trade’s second annual Builder Award.
“Sheldon embodies all that we think the Toronto Region Builder Award is about and why we created it,” said Carol Wilding, president of the Board of Trade.
Wilding said the board selected Levy because of his contributions to the Ryerson campus. They include the transformation of Maple Leaf Gardens to the Mattamy Athletic Centre, the creation of the Digital Media Zone and the idea for the Student Learning Centre, which is currently under construction.
“They represent his drive and his leadership around wanting to build, but he doesn’t just build the physical structures,” she said. “He is the champion for what they mean and what they embody here.”
The award is meant to recognize an extraordinary commitment to making the Toronto region a better place, “to live, to work, to learn, not just for today but into the future,” Wilding said.
Last year’s winner was Leo DelZotto, the president of the real estate development company Tridel.
Levy will receive the award at the board’s annual dinner on Jan. 27.
