Hundreds of mini versions of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) classic were made available for purchase this morning at Toronto’s flagship EB Games at 267 Yonge St.
Doors opened to the public at 9 a.m., but some waiting in line for one of the 500 units released said they arrived at 4:30 a.m. to at least 60 people ahead of them.
Ryerson student Haresna Ratnarajah arrived at 8 a.m. and was surprised by the number of people in line, but was still hopeful he would get his hands on a console.
“I don’t think they will have any more later on, so I just want to get it now,” he said.
The SNES is a smaller version of the classic ‘90s gaming console and comes preloaded with 21 games.
“I want to play a couple games on it,” said Ratnarajah, mentioning Super Mario, Street Fighter and Star Fox.
The SNES retails for $99.99 on the EB Games website, but is currently sold out online.
