There are a number of shops you can scour for cheap picture frames and other home decor items. (Janelle Jordan/Ryersonian)
Decorate your dorm on the cheap by visiting these places, which are all either a short walk or subway ride away from campus:
1) B & J Trading Company: 378 Spadina Ave.
Looking for a downtown dollar store with an Asian twist? Look no further for all things dorm decor in this discount store located in Chinatown, including Asian-inspired kitchenware, bathroom accessories and other inexpensively priced random goodness.
2) Dollarama: 777 Bay St.
Shopping on a shoestring budget just got a lot more fun with this discount haven. While their price points have increased to $2 and $3 per item, you still save big on popular brand name items here rather than spending more at mainstream stores.
3) Honest Ed’s: 581 Bloor St. W.
One of Honest Ed’s iconic hand-painted signs reads: “Don’t faint at our low prices, there’s no place to lie down.” That motto guarantees that you’ll save big at this downtown retailer.
Take advantage of stocking up on everyday essentials from this historic discount store at Bloor and Bathurst before they close their doors for good in December 2016.
4) IKEA: 1475 The Queensway and 15 Provost Dr.
Who doesn’t love IKEA furniture – and Swedish meatballs? With their simple designs and economical prices, IKEA is a favoured destination among students. Make sure to take advantage of their “Wacky Wednesday” and weekly sales flyer events.
Both locations offer a convenient shuttle service that carts people to and from Kipling and Leslie subway stations departing every 20 minutes.
5) Target: 3003 Danforth Ave.
Finally making its debut in Canada, Target is a big-box store filled with affordable bath, bedroom and kitchen supplies, as well as reasonably priced clothing and home decor basics.
6) Winners: 444 Yonge St.
Be a winner by scoring super savings on their unique, low-priced selection of household goods and storage solutions with new inventory arriving daily.
Don’t forget to take a quick stroll south on Yonge Street to Winners’ sister store Marshalls (382 Yonge St.), which carries similar brand names but different stock.
