Team Canada’s wheelchair basketball team couldn’t come back from an early deficit against the Americans in a friendly match on March 26.
The tournament, held at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC), was hosted by the Canadian Paralympic national team. The American team won 67-54 and finished the tournament 5-0. Canada finished 3-2.
Canada trailed 18-8 after the first quarter. Scarborough native Adam Lancia scored a game-high 19 points for the Canadian side, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Americans.
Canada was undefeated at the last Paralympic Games in London in 2012. They took home gold in three of the past four Paralympic Games.
The tournament was organized as a warm-up to the 2015 Parapan Am Games in Toronto. Ryerson and the MAC will host the basketball and wheelchair basketball games for the Pan Am and Parapan Am games in July and August.
