Urban Farm

Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Ryerson Urban Farm operates two rooftop farms on Ryerson University’s campus. These ecological rooftop farm spaces are a Living Lab that builds capacity for rooftop farming within Toronto and beyond, through production, research and engagement.

The main production farm is located on the Andrew and Valerie Environmental Green Roof on the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre (ENG). With more that 40 rooftop crops and 100 cultivars in production, the rooftop farm harvests approximately 10,000 lbs of fresh produce annually.

With the opening of a second rooftop farm atop the Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex (DCC) in 2021, this new space represents the first purpose-built rooftop farm under the City of Toronto’s Green Roof Bylaw, external link.
