Ryerson’s women’s volleyball team cruised back into the OUA Final Four after dropping the Queen’s Gaels 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
This comes just one year after the team suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in a quarterfinal game and missed the Final Four.
Ryerson hasn’t gone back to the Final Four in two years.
After an intense back-and-forth in the first set the score was tied at 24-24 but the Rams cracked down and took the next two points winning the first set by a score of 26-24.
The Rams took an early lead in the second set but the Gaels started to claw their way back into the game. With the score sitting at 22-20 in favour of Queen’s, the Rams picked up momentum and came back to win the set 25-21.
In the third set a worn out Gaels squad gave the Rams a 10-4 lead to start. The team was able to hold on to win the final set by a score of 25-19, and the game 3-0.
The team will have its hands full in the semifinal as it plays the University of Western Ontario, the OUA western division’s regular season champions, Mar. 4 at the University of Toronto.
